The devastating earthquake in Haiti, while not merely shaken the entire world into a much awaited sense of compassion, but has aroused the burning question, Why? Why, Haiti? And Why, now? For such a tiny island to suffer so much pain, misery and grief down through the years, and now this. It seems to add insult to injury. But it begs the larger question, What is God doing?

I am a firm believer that in the midst of everything, God is doing something. From the unpredictable economic free fall, to the improbable election of Barack Obama, and now this. What next? Is this a sign of the times? What is God doing?

A similar question was raised by the disciples when they asked Jesus, “what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world”? Matthew 24.3. Jesus answered that wars and rumours of wars would abound, nation against nation, earthquakes, famines, all would appear as the beginning of sorrows. Matthew 24.8. Is there any good news? “But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved”. Matthew 24.13.

Can you hold out? Can you endure to the end? Be strong in the Lord and in the courage of His might. Ephesians 6.12. Again, I say, be strong.
